Siddha Vaidyam, a scientific glimpse. A peep into this traditional secret knowledge from a modern angle of view.
If we dig up the archives of human history, the first system of cure for human ailments is Siddhavaidyam – undoubtedly, unequivocally, unquestionably. Siddha vaidyam is the contribution of Dravidian culture in pre-historic era, with the grace of Lord Siva passed through Devi Parvathy and from her to their son Lord Subramanian. And he passed it on to his disciple Sage Agasthya, and through him to his 18 siddha disciples; and through them this ancient system is still continuing among mankind. Although all the ailments the human race is to face is dealt with in perfect detail in this system and remedies provided, how did it get relegated to the last place in the list of medical systems of the modern world?
Naturally this one of the questions that rakes the brains of all historians. History reveals that the answer is very clear, open, and flimsy. From parents to son, and from son to his first disciple and from him to the hierarchy of disciples: a system of science designed for such a transmission generation after generation, when it came into the grip of universities and their controls, that time onwards this noble and priceless system is in deep sleep in the black-holes of history. Much of the knowledge secretly transferred down from generation to generation under Gurukula system is now alien to the universities. Some crooks tried to torment the Vaidyas using the Medical Bills to acquire this secret which some families guard as a treasure. And some medical students on the role of Mareecha and approached the vaidyas to learn the secrets. But the majority of Siddha vaidyas who know samudrika sastra and mantra sastra also, sensed the pitfall and stayed away from it.
This situation turned Siddha vaidyam into a stop-gap passage to a doctor’s degree for those who are less wealthy and with lesser intellects. Those who are more brilliant get admission to modern medicine or dental courses. Those who are in the next lower rungs of the ladder reach out to Homeopathy, Ayurveda etc. and also veterinary courses. But the basic reason for this last choice of Siddha vaidyam is their pitiable financial background and the intellectual incapacity rather than a dedication to this medical system. Historians ought to recognize this reality.
A small group, disgruntled with the limitation of their knowledge, formed some organizations and performed some street fights against this traditional learning system. They got a small band of like-minded supporters. Yet, a very limited number of students from highly respectable families rooted in Sanathana Dharma realize the worth of this system and take it forward with great dedication with the help of great gurus and they continue to uphold this system and Vaidya Dharma with their lifelong intensive efforts.
Very many , holding high positions in society including persons with very high learning in modern medicine, often get attracted to the possibilities of Siddhya vaidyam; and it is such interactions that prompt me to write all this.
Then there is another factor: ‘a filled-up pot will not splash’
A question to the deranged intellects: If your face is not worth looking at, what is the use of breaking the mirror? When the ugliness of the face torments, it is natural to show up such mental distress/disorders. Seekers of knowledge across the oceans are eager to get a handful from the ocean of Siddha vaidyam; and if one percent of their sense of propriety is available locally, Siddha vaidyam would have been the most cherished system of medicine in this country. The world is very large. There is no need of a visa or passport or an embassy for knowledge to travel. Some frogs who don’t know this, install themselves as kings in this well of a kingdom and rule over it.
Deva Vidya was established in the earlier nineties, as a Traditional Gurukula System, under the eminent leadership of Sri Prem Nath. Prem Nath, hailing from a Siddha family of famous physicians, followed the footsteps of his grandfather, Late Sri Narayanan Vaidyar and started practicing traditional siddha medicine and marma therapies. He uses his large collection of manuscripts for advancing and spreading the Siddhar wisdom to all.
